Do No Harm: Physicians take an oath to first of all do not harm.  Doctors withhold treatments only if the treatment might harm the patient.  Physicians use their many years of education and experience when determining any appropriate treatment.  Patients must remember this when their opinion differs from that of the physician.  In these situations, ask questions and try to understand the doctors reasoning.

No easy answer: It is difficult to say why your doctor won't prescribe a stronger pain medication without knowing the details of your specific clinical situation. However, rarely is pain medication the answer as these are only  pain "maskers", whereas we want to look for the source of the pain and treat the cause of the pain. Discuss this with your doctor.

Not your call.: I am always "frightened"by patients who believe they need pain meds, usually, no always meaning narcotics.  They almost always have "tasted" these drugs before, frequently inappropriately! your doctor is the best arbitor of this, hopefully a creditable one. Very few patients need narcotic therapy. Narcotics are grossly overprescribed! you are male-they will kill your masculinity! great trade off!

Stillbirth: There are different medications that are given to induce delivery of a still birth. The choices are based upon the gestational age at the time of diagnosis. Usually a combination of prostaglandin and Pitocin (oxytocin) medications are used.  Sometimes laminaria are also used. Your physician and institution have protocols that are set up specifically for these situations.
