Yes: As you favor the injured leg the non-injured leg has to work a little harder and it can become irritated as well.

Bruise: A knee sprain can result in tearing tiny blood vessels and bruising, both in the back of the knee and down the front.  Consider getting assessed by your doctor if the purple area continues to spread.

Yes: If your knee is swollen, gravity will bring some of the fluid down to the foot causing your symptoms.  Fluid can also make the knee pop.

Great question!: That really is a good question. In general, dvt's will not cause a cold foot, but there are other things that can happen to an injured leg that would cause it to be cold. If you have any question about your daughter's treatment you should take her back, also, if her foot/leg is cold, pale, very painful, numb, and/or she can't walk on it, she should be seen immediately as it may be serious!

Possibly: For instability and pain, crutches are not a bad idea and can help off-load the areas of pain.

When your knee pain: You'll usually require crutches from your symptoms of pain.  As it lessens, the crutches can go!

Graded 1 through 3..: Sprains & strains are graded based on the number of fibers within the structure that are stretched/ torn. A grade 1 may not cause enough pain/ discomfort for you to think you need a brace/ crutches, but a brace is a good idea. The brace can protect the  joint from further damage until you have regained enough strength to protect yourself in your normal activities.

Injury: While some components of an injury can have less pain, by restricted weight bearing,they may still cause symptoms secondary to swelling, inflammation, and even bleeding.  If it does not improve, consider an MRI for a more specific diagnosis beyond a simple " sprain."
