how long would it take for air bubbles (going in thru an iv line) to cause an embolism? i already know small bubbles are not a problem but the almost the whole line was filled with air ?

Generally ok, but...: The people we worry about air getting through to the output side of the heart are people who have a hole or other abnormal connection between the vein side (input to heart) and the artery side (output from heart). Without a hole in the heart between the right (input) and left (output) sides, or some other abnormal shunt connection, small air bubbles in veins go to the lungs and are "exhaled."

i think i have a fractured rib on left side from a bear hug...hurts to take deep breath and move too fast...but now i feel like i can feel air bubbles on side where i think is fractured. is this normal?

Sinus Arrythmia: It is normal for heart rate to slow down and may feel like a skip heart beat due to stimulation of Vagus Nerve.and is normal.
It is called Sinus Arrythmia and is very common especially in children and young adults

See a physician: This could reflect a problem in your lungs/chest cavity - anytime a patient has difficulty with breathing, i would certainly recommend seeing a physician for evaluation.

Bubble: Yes, if it was indeed an air bubble you could have got pulmonary embolism which is devastating.

Time: Your body will absorb any air bubbles contained within.  Most air in the body (in the wrong places) is from tissue breakdown with air entry through an opening which can be enhanced for instance by coughing or sneezing.  Don't inject air anywhere into your body. Air is used by eye surgeons for retinal problems; the air spontaneously gets absorbed.
