BV: Men are almost never symptomatically infected by the organisms usually responsible for BV, but the skin of the penis can become contaminated with these bacteria and then they can be transmitted back to their sexual partner after she has been treated.  It would help for the man to use a topical antibacterial substance while their female partner is being treated.

Maybe: Men rarely have symptoms, but they can become a carrier. Some people thinks this happens more with men who still have a foreskin. If the female gets treated, gets better, and then has sex with the same partner and gets BV again, then it might help to treat the male as well. There is no test for BV in the male.

Do you have symptoms: Bacterial vaginosis is not necessarily sexually transmitted. Do you have any symptoms? Did they culture or diagnose which bacteria she has?

No!: Bacterial vaginosis (bv) occurs when the normal type of bacteria that live in your vagina get replaced by different types of bacteria. Bv is not sexually transmitted, but instead reflects a naturally occurring change in your vagina that enables the new bacteria to grow - hormones, pH change, recent antibiotic use, etc. Your doctor can prescribe a medication to help restore the normal bacteria.

had a urinalysis done for recurring utis and my urinalysis showed i had normal counts of ureaplasma. culture also showed strep b, staph aureus, and bv. i am on a long term course of macrobid. is ureaplasma normal and does partner need to be treated?

: Best is to repeat a clean catch mid stream urine culture. get BV treated drink plenty of water and have  partner wear a condom till things are sorted out

Probably not: As in my other reply, I doubt BV explains your symptoms. As I also said there, OK to try metronidazole (Flagyl), but I&#x27;m not optimistic it will help. Treating male partners of women with BV does not prevent persistent or recurrent BV. BV isn&#x27;t apparently an STD in the usual sense, but consistent condom use for several weeks may help. OTOH your asymptomatic BV probably isn&#x27;t the main problem.

No urethral infect-n: Although men would not get an internal infection with Candida, if the genitals remain damp from tight clothing or sweating a lot, it is possible to get a skin yeast infection in the genital area. This responds well to topical sprays or powder used for jock itch, which refers to infection in the groin from fungi commonly causing athlete's foot.

Trichomonas: You might have had trichomonas all along. Trich and BV cause similar symptoms and are easily mixed up, even with lab testing. Trich is sexually transmitted, but often carried for years before it shows up in either partner. New trich in a monogamous couple usually is not due to sexual infidelity. You and husband both need Rx with metronidazole, ideally multi-dose, not single dose. Good luck!
