so my baby is almost 2 weeks old, and she has not made a bowel movement in 3 days. after every feeding, she farts and tries to push for about an hour and nothing comes out. i gave her baby gas drops and that didnt help?

: Please contact her doctor; she may need to be examined. However, if she is wetting her diapers at least 4-6x/day, she is probably OK. You can try to take her temperature rectally or give her a baby glycerin suppository to stimulate a bowel movement (but don't do that repeatedly). If that doesn't work, definitely contact her doctor.

I hope I am interpreting your usage of the word "grumbling" correctly, but it is a normal thing to feel and merely indicates that your intestines are contracting or moving - as they should. Yes: gas can be uncomfortable for newborns and can cause them to wake. However, 7 week olds may not be sleeping for other reasons as well. First question is how often is your baby sleeping. You likely have an 2 month well check coming up with your pediatrician and this is a great time to discuss sleep in detail so your current feeding/sleeping schedule can be reviewed.

Good latch: Making sure your baby has a good latch so they aren't gulping air will help.  That being said some babies are "gulpers" and swallow lots of air no matter how good the latch is.

Probiotic: You have probably already tried mylocon drops (simethicone). They can help a little. Try a probiotic such as bio gaia or jarodophilus (buy at health food store or on line). Can also try yobaby yogurt. If stools are firm/pasty then treat for constipation.

So called "colic" : Is the first sign of oxidative stress that involves the brain, making him irritable. He badly needs some vitamins and you may have to change the diet, particularly stop sugar.

Colic: Annoying to new parents, simethicone liquid may help, as long aS she is wetting 3-4 diapers a day, she is well hydrated.....you could try different formulas (soy based), no good science behind it.....usually goes away by 7-9 months.....have plenty of help so you don’t get too stressed

See Gastroenterologi: Your ibs. And gastroparesis may be the cause of excessive gas accumulation and causes pain.Get a gastroenterology consult. Meanwhile have very small but frequent meals instead of 2-3 meals a day, increase your fiber intake.

Pediatrician: Sounds a lot like reflux. I'm guessing this has been going on for awhile. The gripe water and gas drops are a good start, but the acid is likely hurting her esophagus, and keeping her upright allows the stomach to empty faster, limiting reflux. An antacid like Zantac (ranitidine) is the first drug of choice, and often does a lot of good. If that's not helpful, follow up with a gastroenterologist.
