Mild laxative : You can try a stool softener 1st and then a slightly stronger otc laxative if necessary. Interestingly, most people get diarrhea from antibiotics.

Constipation: Antibiotics typically do not cause constipation.  In fact they can do the opposite (diarrhea/loose stool).  A great way to relieve constipation is through over the counter stool softeners such as Colace or Miralax (polyethylene glycol). You can also use Senna with stool softeners to help promote a bowel movement.  Hope this helps.

Stool softener: Try a stool softener as per directions on thepackage. just ask your pharmacist which one.otherwise you may need to change antibiotics. Talk to your doctor.

Constipation: It takes a while to develop severe constipation .Activity helps as well as making sure drink plenty of water and fiber.l.Certain foods that contain Calcium such as milk and cheese can make constipation worse.Miralax and stool softeners are a good option to get things going but make sure do the other measures also.

i have recurrence of uti just finish with my antibiotic i  still see like particle in my urine like foam and my back and side hurt should i ask for a culture i'm always constipated what can this be .

Yes: If you have just finished Cephalexin and still have symptoms of uti, a culture is indicated.  Constipation is caused by diet and dehydration.  Drink 10+ cups of water daily and eat large portions of whole foods with each meal; 3-4 fruits (apple a day) + whole grain cereal/bread.  A large salad using something other than iceberg lettuce and lots of legumes (beans).   Then walk 1+ miles a day.

is it ok to take immodium for watery diarrhoea during a flare up of uncomplicated diverticulitis? it's the 4th day of antibiotics and the diarrhoea is making me feel worse. i'm not concerned about constipation as it has never happened to me?

: This question should be addressed to the treating doc as the cause of diarrhea could be the antibiotic or part of the diverticulitis for he/ she knows your problem best. Hope you feel better

Unlikely: It would be very very unusual for Amoxicillin to produce constipation.  Far more likely to cause diarrhea.  This may be due to dietary issues, but if it continues would have her see a pediatrician and be evaluated. Hope she is better soon.

HSV 2 PAIN: Usually the first episode of HSV2 is the most painful. You should still be on an antiviral  like valtrex (valacyclovir) or famvir. If pain is still present discuss with you doctor a course of prednisone with a taper. You also need a repeat exam and labs to assess your immune system. You should also notify all sexual partners
