all fingers on my 15 year old daughter's right hand is swollen for the past 3 weeks. no impact or trauma to the hand. may be because of the cold as it only appeared now in winter for the first time?

See a Dr.: One sided swelling of any extremity can be indicative of an underlying problem. (infection, vascular problem, lymphatic blockage, Thrombosis) You should take your child to see her Dr. A thorough history and exam can provide insight as to what the underlying cause could be and treatment. Unilateral swelling is not caused by cold weather.

Finger Numbness: Peripheral neuropathy can be the cause. Unlikely that carpal tunnel can cause numbness of little finger.

Neck injury?: many things can cause the symptom; sports related injuries to the neck and/or shoulder for instance, and wrist strain, for instance. getting a full neuro exam from your doctor should be the next step in finding out the etiology

Mainly aging: Increase in vertical ridges of the fingernails as age, and this can be a normal development. Onychorrhexis is the medical term used to describe longitudinal ridges on the nails that often accompany brittle nails.Trauma may also be a cause of nail ridges. Nutritional causes such as vitamin deficiency less common.

infection: Infection is a major possibility. The hand needs to be evaluated immediately. Go to the er.

Don't worry!: Do you have any other symptoms? Like shortness of breath?  Shamroth's sign is used to distinguish clubbing only when there are signs and symptoms suggestive of a disease. It's not a test that you do on yourself just to see if you have clubbing. And having the window space is normal. It's not having the space that could be clubbing! so relax. At age 26 it is very unlikely you have GI cancer!

Tingling: Carpal tunnel typically causes tinging not pain in all the fingers except the little. If you are having pain it could be from a trigger finger?
