can you tell me about fistula from diverticulitis?

Diverticulitis can: cause fistula between colon and bladder (vesiculo-colonic) or vagina (colo-vaginal), and will require an operation for definitive care.  Diverticulitis is uncommon in your age group, so ask your doctor if there is possibility of Crohn's disease.

how common are colovesical fistulas ? i have uti that hasnt gone away but they did change my antibiotics. i had mild diverticulitis few years ago and spoke to my gi and hes not too concerned about it being possible colovesical fistula. thanks?

Get eval: Not sure if the pain is related to the previous years surgical site, or if your appendix is inflamed, etc.  With your symptoms and history, best to get a medical evaluation and some possible testing ordered to aid in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment if needed..  best wishes.

Not frequent: If stricture develops may be due to recurrences of disease, balloon dilation may help, will require resection for better out come.

i asked about colovesical fistula. i was having bubbles in urine. i now understand better thanks to a doc on here. i had clear urinalysis a week ago. are colovesical fistula a uncommon complication of diverticulitis? i do have diverticulitis. thanks?

: Yes, diverticulitis is among the conditions that could lead to a colovesical fistula. But normal urinalysis is nearly 100% evidence against it. Discuss with the doctor who manages your diverticulosis.

I'm afraid: that the first may have been a situation leading to the second ct scan result. the fistula has closed leaving an abscess "in its wake"......check this out ASAP with your GI doc for possible surgical referral..

Not necessarily: The interpretation of the same ct scan can be changed according to the clinical picture. The clinical picture has support the ct scan and until it would the reading of the ct scan can change. So, it is a fluid situation , it is not rigid. Reading of the ct has to match the clinical condition of the person. I hope this helps.

Recurrece: Uncommon problem, most  likely recurrence of disease not the scar , need endoscopic  reevaluation for presence of any malignancy'  initial balloon dilatation, if unsuccessful , followed by surgical resection  is required.

No-many possibilitie: A stricture is a narrowing of the colon that can arise due to diseases of the colon such as diverticulitis, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or as a complication of prior surgery.  Management may include endoscopic dilitation of the stricture  or surgical excision, depending upon the cause of the stricture.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon for their expert opinion.

Yes: Generally the symptoms of diverticulitis are left lower abdominal pain, fever, and bloating...It can also be associated with either diarrhea or constipation. If you have fever or abdominal pain, you should be evaluated as soon as possible, as diverticulitis is due to perforation of the colon, and can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
