Recurrece: Uncommon problem, most  likely recurrence of disease not the scar , need endoscopic  reevaluation for presence of any malignancy'  initial balloon dilatation, if unsuccessful , followed by surgical resection  is required.

is mrsa pneumonia contagious?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Although not that simple.  When someone has MRSA pneumonia, the droplets that come out when they cough can contain MRSA.  MRSA is not airborne except in droplets and it doesn't survive long outside.   It is acquired by touching a person or object that has live MRSA bacteria on it.  Hand washing is best for prevention.  the patient with MRSA pneumonia should be isolated and wear a mask.

? treated in a dorm?: I can't imagine anyone with stap pneumonia being treated in a dorm. Most are isolated in a hospital room during the initial stage of treatment. Droplet precautions (masks and good hand washing) are recommended during the prolonged coughing phase after initial treatment.Staph are present in the environment continuously & a patient may carry the germ for months after successful resolution of the pne.

CA-MRSA: Treatment of MRSA infection depends on where the infection is & how ill the patient is. For eg, treatment for MRSA infection in the blood is differs from MRSA infection on the skin. It also depends if it's hospital or community acquired. If uncomplicated skin infection, eg abscess, i&d, bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clidna, zyvox are a good start until antibiotic sensitivity is available at 48 hours.

Yes: Acute bronchitis is currently considered to be caused mostly by viruses, which are quite contagious.  It can be transmitted in the air, by coughing, and by contact with the sick person's hands (if the hands have been coughed on or touched the mouth).  The most contagious period is usually early in the illness, and shortly before the illness begins to show symptoms.

No: Paronychia is an infection of the area where to the fingernail or toenail meets the skin.  It is usually a bacterial infection, whereas Fluconazole only treats fungus.  The treatment usually involves hot soaks and sometimes surgical drainage.  Fluconazole is unlikely to help., .

Not likely: Tracheitis is inflammation of the trachea from any of a number of reasons. Even if it is infectious, it is unlikely to result it spreading to another person.

does mrsa treatment require hospitalization?

Accepted Answer

No: Not generally.  There are excellent antibiotics on the market..Zyvox (linezolid) being one of my favorite.  It is a twice a day antibiotic that is excellent for mrsa.
