how long does it take for self dissolving stitches to dissolve?

About a week: Self dissolving sutures are designed to melt away as the healing process takes over the wound closure.  Unless some added trauma to the wound is experienced healing should be uneventful with good oral care and taking your meds.

what is the best way to clean a wound with non-dissolving stitches?

Wound care: Gently wash the area with mild soap & warm water; rinse; pat dry; apply clean dressing if one was present (ideally, antibiotic ointment, non-stick dressing, topper gauze/tube gauze if available & appropriate to the wound site). Watch for signs of infection: heat, redness, increased pain, pus, separation of wound edges.

my skin is growing over my stitches, they are prolene(non dissolving). should i be worried?

Not really.: It's common for skin to grow over sutures. It may make them a little more difficult to remove, and the area may have to be numbed up a bit in order to remove them, but it's nothing to be concerned about. You may wish to call your surgeon and ask if he/she wants to take the sutures out a bit sooner than planned.

Most likely: If it is just small opening and nothing is draining from it and there is no bleeding, it is probably normal healing with dissolving sutures. Clean the area as directed by your surgeon.

Sutures: Sometimes absorbable sutures don't absorb ( dissolve ).Not to worry.Let doc remove.

can a dissolving stitch from a cesarean break lose and come through the skin?

Yes: It happens all the time, and in most cases it's nothing to worry about.  It can take several months for dissolvable sutures to dissolve completely.  Leave them alone if they don't bother you; but if they do, many obstetricians advise cutting them off at skin level.  Check with yours to be sure.

hi. i had a bad accident in which my both lips got severe injury and i had got stitches inside my lips.now its been 2 weeks,stitches are dissolving but i've developed lumps inside my both lips and i cant even smile properly.are these lumps permanent?

: The lumps are likely a part of the healing process. As long as the lumps are getting smaller, you may watch and wait. If there is pain, discharge or ulceration, it would be prudent to see your doctor.

See the dentist: Resorbable sutures  sutures last 1-3 weeks.
Some pain or discomfort at the site of the surgery may last for 5 to 10 days. The amount of discomfort is different from one person to another and from one procedure to another.
See the dentist who performed oral surgery for evaluation of the cause of your pain.
