Depends usu 1-2 week: Depends on material. Can take longer than 2 weeks. Once the wound is healed, can ask health care provider. Sometimes have loose undissolved ends which can be easily removed to help with the process.

Possibly: It could be possible that those are not really dissolvable sutures. The other possibility is that your body may not be accepting or decomposing these stitches as expected. I would get a check if this is what's happening to you.

Sutures: I practice here in "the region." the hospitals have chromic and vicryl suture for OB gyn use. They will absorb and it is really unusual that they haven't absorbed.  I think you need to see your gyn. Perhaps there was an error and something different was used.

See surgeon: See your surgeon. That is not normal. That wasn't a dissolvable stitch then or it's some fiber development in the tissue post-op.

Several months: The most commonly used dissolvable sutures take 3-4 months to be completely absorbed by the body.

Yes: Totally normal. If not better within a week, see Doc for reevaluation.

May be OK: It sometimes takes longer for these stitches to dissolve completely. If there is no inflammation or infection your son should be alright. A routine check up where the stitches were put in would be a good idea to make certain the wound is healing well.

Depends: There are different resorb-able sutures types, with different dissolving time frames.  These time frames are also an average and depend upon several factors - including a patient's enzymatic activity.  Additionally, your diet and oral "activity" could also cause the premature loss of sutures.  Within a few days of surgery, then no it is not normal.  Give your oral and maxillofacial surgeon a call.
