Not necessarily: Genetic factors do play a role. If there is someone in the family with autism, it increases the chances of getting it. However, in most cases it is not a purely genetic disease. Other factors (environmental and perinatal) seem to play a role as well.

Depends: Without knowing the age of the individual tested and the name of the test used it is hard to say. " autism tests" assess the presence or absence of certain skills and behaviors. These include language, social interaction,  sensory issues and sterotypical movements.  At younger ages autism spectrum disorders may appear similar to other neurodevelopmental disordeers.  Ask provider for clarification.

It is a disorder: Is not part of the autism spectrum disorders .A child with reactive attachment disorder is typically neglected, abused or orphaned. Reactive attachment disorder develops because the child's basic needs for comfort, affection and nurturing aren't met and loving, caring attachments with others are never established.

Requires expertise: Autism can present in many forms, and other disorders can have elements that can be mistaken for it.  Age also is important:   2 or 3 yo children present much differently than older ones or adolescents.  No behaviors associated with autism occur only with autism.  Experts look at the total picture, both how development is going and what impairments are present.  So, far no biological tests.

Autism: Yes , it is a neurodevelopmental disorder occuring in childhood.Some are mentally retarted. Problem with social behavior and communication , also with repetitive stereotype patterns of behavior.

PDD spectrum : Autism spectrum still fascinates us as neuroscientist and we just met as a group at onemindforresearch at tom hanks who still loves his role as forrest Dopamine serotonin and norepinephrine all along with GABA are not regulated and they perceive world as overstimulated place so they shut down and their senses are overloaded and have their own ways of stimulation which may seem odd or painful.
