Diverticulitis.: Acute diverticulitis is an infection of a diverticulum that aberrantly outpouches from the colon.  This is not considered an inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's.

Unknown: You have a very rare disorder that's been reported in less than 100 patients. It's associated with neurological conditions as well as GI ones with pathognomonic findings on mri. You would be best followed at an ultra specialized center where they are involved in research. You can find links on the web via the nlm - national library of medicine.

Maybe see your MD: I would suggest that you both  be tested for celiac and crohns disease. It is possible that she inherited the same sensitivity to food or environment that is causing your digestive issue. Please see your md.

dr "presumably" diagnosed me with diverticulitis.  im taking cipro (ciprofloxacin) and flagyl.  my bowels changed in color  now dark and pasty  is this normal?

Not normal!!!: Black and pasty could mean that you have and upper gastrointestinal bleed...  although unlikely...
Call your prescribing doctor, and do not panic.

Old food: 4 days of a clear liquid diet results in no residual non absorbable products in small intestine.  When this liquid material is partially absorbed in the 12 or more feet of colon which contains suface colonocyte cells and bacterial, it comes out as you describe as small thin and mushy.  Has nothing to do with  a resolved diverticular problem.

Follow up : Colonoscopy after treatment for diverticulitis usually occurs in the range of 6 weeks after initiation of treatment.  Based on the timeline you provided this follow-up colonoscopy is a bit on the early side and you may want to review ideal timing with whomever scheduled this procedure for you.

Different: These are different conditions. Irritable bowel is a chronic condition of abdominal bloating & cramping with alternating diarrhea & constipation controlled with diet & high fiber foods. Diverticulitis is an active infection of small pouches on the colon needing antibiotic treatment.

Not likely: Diverticulosis is when you have pouches form in the wall of the colon; it usually develops slowly w/ age. It may be genetic, related to constipation or to a low fiber diet. Diverticulitis is when 1 of these pouches gets inflamed & infected, leading to pain, fever, obstruction, bleeding & abscesses. This doesn't usually result from surg trauma, but the symptoms can be similar to a perforation.
