Benign sun damage: Common to see slight yellowing of that thin layer, called the conjunctiva. The medical term is "pingueculae", common in sunny, dry, dusty climates. 
Strange that it only one eye. Usually this is bilateral unless from trauma or assymmetric exposure.

Pterygium: The bulge on your sclera is probably a benign growth called a pterygium. If it is symptomatic, it can be removed by an ophthalmologist. Make an appointment with an ophthalmologist to examine the yellowish brown discoloration around your iris.

Causes of chemosis: Bruce, It looks like you have some fluid that accumulated under the conjunctiva (the clear film covering your sclera) and this is called chemosis. It can be clear, pinkish or yellowish.  
Is it on both sides? 
How long has it been there and what were you doing when it started?
Is it painful? 
Have you tried using artificial tears?
There are many things that cause this, need more info.

Usually : One of 3 causes; bacterial or viral infection or allergies.  Sometimes difficult to distinguish between the 3 causes, but viral conjunctivitis is usually occompainied by cold-like symptoms and allergic may be occompainied by other allergic symptoms like runny nose and sneezing. Bacterial usually has heavy drainage causing eye to be matted shut.  If you have a painful red eye, see your doc urgently.

2 weeks: Unfortunately the black eye will take about 2 weeks to resolve.  You can try to speed up the process by using a light steroid cream and off label something like preparation H which could help constrict the blood vessels but unfortunately there isn't much to do besides make up

Usually No: Certainly if the eye was directly affected, injured and scarred it may appear different.  But, if the eye injury was due to a retinal detachment or optic nerve damage, the eye externally will appear completely normal.

Possibly: Sometimes, in response to injury, the cornea will become cloudy, which can give it a blue-grey appearance.

Get checked...: If you are experiencing vision changes especially if they have been sudden it is very important that you get seen by an Ophthalmologist(eye doctor) as soon as possible. Sometimes dangerous conditions can cause this type of changes.
