Sunlight: Although it is not typical some people have light sensitive freckles on their iris that can darken with cumulative light exposure. Since eye color is a composite effect this is one possibility. Discoloration of the white of the eye is usually due to chronic sun exposure and/or irritants. These possibilities should be investigated by an Eye MD.

More information: There are so many things that can cause this. It would be helpful to know the following. Is the discoloration: yellow? pink? throughout the eye or localized? one eye or both? Is the discomfort: burning? aching? constant or intermittent? Please resubmit your question with more details so we can be more helpful. A picture would also be very helpful.
