Pulse ox: Pulse oximetry measures the oxygen in your blood and rules out certain disease entities but further work up for shortness of breath such as breathing tests , and heart function are included in the work up

Gerd: Is acid reflux into the esophagus  and low pulse oximetry is low oxygen in the blood.Normally not related unless you would reflux and aspirate it into the lungs  lowering the pulse oximetry.

Not infection: Using pulse oximetry will not show a real oxygen saturation of the hemoglobin. Co binds to hemoglobin more avidly than oxygen, shifts the saturation curve to the left as what is measured is occupied hemoglobin (reduced) even if the co is the one occupying it. It is best to use the abg.

: Not always. The body has a protective mechanism that can shift circulation from the body surface to the deeper tissues, primarily to prevent heat loss. This is often marked by cold extremities. That feature can become activated by other conditions unrelated to poor circulation or hot/cold environments. Oximetry is not always helpful in assessing this issue.

what causes low pulse rates with pulse oximeter?

Pulse rate: It's an indirect measurement of how many heartbeats you have in one minute. the normal rate is between 60 and 100. It is considered low when it's bellow 60. Many factors influence and could result in this: Age,activity levels, medications, having a cardiovascular disease.
If you have other signs or symptoms, such as fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath, you should onsult your doctor.

Yes: If functioning properly should be adequate to evaluate oxygen saturation at home. Useful for evaluating trends especially with Covid symptoms. Need to monitor saturation and take action if saturation decreasing especially below 90% or if there is large drop over course of several days even above 90% as this may signal need for steroid treatment if caused by Covid.

Reliability : Perfusion index is normally monitored with pulse oximeters. PI is also a good indicator of the reliability of the pulse oximeter reading. For most pulse oximeters for general use, the reading is unreliable or unavailable if PI is at or below 0.4%. It is most reliable above 5%. The max is 20% for extremely powerful pulses.
