i was in infrared sauna. last time i felt sunburned after ir-sauna. it had been 1 week now and im still feeling sunburned.is it a damage?what to do?

Probable burn: It sounds as though the skin absorbed too much thermal energy and you have a mild burn.  This may take several weeks to heal.  Stay away from any further use of the ir device for now.  If you do not notice improvement, you should be seen by a dermatologist.

No!: You shouldn't be using IR sun lamps irregardless because of increased risk of skin damage and melanomas. Good riddance to them!  Also unless you have severe cystic acne you should try to absolutely minimize your exposure to accutane. When you do want to get pregnant in the future it greatly increases your risk of having a deformed baby (remember thalidomide)!

May be: Infra red saunas are known to help to improve general well being. They are not a replacement for therapy. Needs more research to recommend for consistent benefits.

Depends: It depends on if you are taking antiviral therapy for hepatitis c. The sauna heat triggers the skin rash.

No cancer assoc.: Cancer is not expected to result from exposure to infrared radiation. Infrared radiation, or infrared light, is a type of radiant energy which is invisible to human eyes but that we can feel as heat.  And so infrared saunas do not cause cancer &amp; instead can potentially slow or stop the spread of cancer in affected patients. Best of luck with your health!

Possibly : Can develop a sensitivity to the eucalyptus oil (irritant dermatitis).  I have to work within a conventional medical framework and in the conventional world the studies on infrared saunas have so far been disappointing re its effects.

Accepted Answer

Not a problem: Far infra ed saun works well even if the temperature is not above 100 degrees so there is little reason to worry about overheating if you stay in for 30 to 60 minutes and drink a lot of water when in the sauna and take extra electrolytes.

No: Sunburns are dangerous and can lead to many problems.  You ay have also incubated and cultured viral and bacterial infections which can cause arthralgias and myalgias.

Not sure...: Saunas are very good for pain control from sore joints and muscles, however, you need to take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion.  Infrared saunas should be set in the range of 100-120 degrees.  You should always drink water before, during, and after the sauna session. Also, if you just started using the sauna, you need to slowly increase the time and temperature as your body gets used to it.
