Many possibilities.: Difficulty urinating can be grouped into disorders of the bladder's ability to expel urine or obstruction of the outflow tract. Bladder problems include muscular disorders, diverticuli, diabetes, & neurologic problems. The most common cause of obstruction in men is an enlarged prostate, but strictures and blockage by stones can occur. If you're having difficulty, i recommend you see a urologist.

Severe urinary retention as a new symptom is an emergency. That means a person is making urine, his urine is going into his bladder, but he cannot pee. Thus, his bladder is getting bigger and bigger... and needs treatment in the ER. Middle-age prostate problems may exist.

Yes: Opioids such as hydrocodone, oxycodone & morphine are associated with urinary retention, constipation & dry mouth, among other side effects.  While one can attempt to prevent and deal with the latter two issues, preventing & treating urinary retention is trickier. Best to avoid other anticholinergic medications if at all possible.
