my mother (69 years old) has advanced coxarthrosis of hip joints, what are the latest known methods of treatment with dietary supplements, painkillers and medication that i can buy without a prescription? we want to postpone the surgery alap. thanks?

Non Rx treatment : Oral: NSAIDS like ibuprofen/naproxen. Turmeric or curcumin 1000mg 2x daily, glucosamine/chondroiten supplements.
Topical: TNS unit, local deep heat like ultra sound. NSAID or Menthol rubs, liniments.
Devices: Cane in opposite hand (decreases weight bearing 25%), walker (decreases WB 50%). Motorized cart
Limit stairs and uphill climbs if possible. Weight loss.

Osteopenia: Calcium is commonly not an issue as dietary calcium is often sufficient with most people's daily dietary intake. More commonly, osteopenia/osteoporosis is correlated with vitamin d deficiency. I'd have your calcium and vitamin d levels checked. Resistance exercises also help build stronger bones. There are side-effects to bisphosphonate therapy, but believed that their benefits outweigh the risks.

Bad strategy: Best plan to pass drug test is not to put drugs into body. B12 is not considered a "water pill".

: Diet and supplements if you know enough could affect intestinal microbiome significantly. You are obviously knowledgeable in the area and with further research you would find how to use diet and supplements to treat GI dysbiosis. Fecal microbial transplant is not the only way to manage it and I know you are aware of probiotics and others that could be used. It is your diet that is most important.

Everyone!: Due to the pollutants, preservatives, microwave cooking and the age of our food when we eat it, virtually everyone should take dietary supplements to make sure we are getting enough to maintain and heal our bodies properly.  Even children and babies need supplementation.

Yes: The body's biochemical processes need vitamins & minerals to work properly. Much of our grocery store food no longer contains the same levels of nutrients due to changes in farming. Environmental issues such as stress can cause a decrease in nutrients. Unless eating all organic food, supplements may be necessary and safe.

Supplements : You don't specify why you are supplementing.  Almost everyone needs to supplement omega 3s, vitamin D3, and often could also benefit from certain vitamins and minerals.  It is best to work with a doctor who has training in nutrition and supplements and not just take supplements without guidance.
