Recommend 6-9 months: Once the breast mound has been created, it may take up to 6-9 months for resolution of swelling and fibrosis. This is the typical amou t of time that i will advise patients to wait for revisions. However it does depend on the extent of the asymmetry and what needs to be corrected.

what is modified weaver-dunn reconstruction?

Shoulder operation: The modifiedweaver dunn operation is done to correct a dislocated AC (acromioclavicular) joint. In a AC joint separation the coracoclavicular ligament is torn and the clavicle tends to pop up.  The w-d operation involves transferring the acromioclavicular ligament from the acromion (in front of the shoulder) down to the coracoid (below the clavicle) to pull the clavicle down and keep it in place.

Incision: It usually takes 2-3 weeks for incisions to heal.  Even then they still will be tender and weaker than skin that has not been cut.  Be patient and follow the instructions of your surgeon.

Bilateral mastectomy: Without the use of prosthetic implants like saline or silicone, your surgeon perhaps feels one or the other muscle flaps is best suited for you. If you are having radiation now or later, implants alone may not be helpful. Microsurgical DIEP and modified DIEP flaps may also be considered.  An exam doctor to patient can only determine what is best.

Many thing: The answer to your question depends on what sort of facial reconstruction you're speaking of.  The goal of reconstructive surgery is to restore the normal form and function of the face and facial structures. This can range from removal of a small cancer with reconstruction of a small defect to a face transplant. In general though successful reconstruction can be a transformative experience for patient.

Depends: Facial reconstruction can be as simple as a closure of a simple wound to extremely complex such as the use of microsurgery and free flaps.  Facial transplantation also falls under this category which can take more than 24 hours of surgery.  Thus recovery is always procedure specific and also related to your other related medical conditions.

if i've already had should reconstruction can i have a 2nd operation if my pain continues?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The term "shoulder reconstruction" can include surgery for fracture or instability, or shoulder replacement.  The best chance for a successful 2nd operation is if it is apparent why you still have pain.  If the previous procedure appears well done without anything that can be significantly improved on, simply re-doing it may not have a higher rate of success than what was already been done.

No breakthroughs but: There is a tremendous amount of basic research and actual clinical work concerning stem cell and gene therapy as well as further understanding of growth factors as well as the underlying changes or  pathophysiology that occurs with nerve injury or damage with the thrust of research looking how to minimize this "damage" cellular environment while at the same time learning how to promote repair.

Ligament surgery: A ligament holds bone to bone. If it is sufficiently injured you may get an unstable joint.  Ligament reconstruction usually involves taking your open tendon or a cadaver tendon to replace the ligament.

Very: The vast majority of patients have excellent relief of instability and pain.
