Hard question: Although there is no definite cure, several therapies have been shown to be effective - dilation of the esophagus, certain medications such as nitroglycerine, Nifedipine may be helpful and finally if all fails, especially esophageal dilations, surgery.

Possibly Reglan (metoclopramide): You can speak to your doctor about trying Reglan (metoclopramide) or Metoclopramide but cautiously and in small amounts since you have to worry about side effects. This a motility agent that might help and also there could be a stricture in esophagus that might need to be dilated per upper endoscopy perhaps as well.

can achalasia be cured permanently,i v known that when i searched on google it show it cannot be completely cured but symptoms can be reduced,but i am hoping for my esophagus to turn back normal.plz i want a positive reply?

: See a gastroenterologist, who may be able to do an imaging study (upper GI, fluoroscopy, etc) to determine the degree of impairment and treatment options.

hi, can gerd cause esophageal dysmotility? i dont mean achalasia or sclerodermia. only gerd (les 3mmhg). i have both and non specific. thanks

They go together: Your les (lower esophageal sphincter) is hypotensive. The pressure is too low. Normally it should be above 10mmhg. Therefore acid from the stomach can freely go up to your esophagus and therefore gerd. If your physician told you that rest of manometry was unremarkable, you may still have scleroderma. Some foods and medications can decrease the les pressure. Achalasia has a high les pressure.

GERD alone unlikely: manometric evidence of aperistalsis (not simply on barium test) unlikely from GERD alone, and can be from achalasia or esophageal scleroderma, even without skin findings of latter. You need to see Gastroenterologist or motility expert. Low LES pressure does not rule out achalasia. Need more info: Any other related symptoms - how did you get this result in first place ? It's rare to have all part of esophagus not moving in young age without underlying problem but could induce by specific drugs as well. Was this measured by functional esophagography?

Oesophagus: There are many disease states which include motility disorders of the oesophagus;yes chest pain can and often does arise from it

: Jackhammer esophagus is a muscular motility disorder that affects swallowing, &amp; unfortunately it can in some cases lead to achalasia.
