Problem in chromasms: Babies are supposed to get 23 chromosomes from mom &  23 from dad at he point of conception.In ds babies, an extra # 21 chromosome joins the mix for reasons that are not clear.As the egg grows the extra becomes part of every cell & baby is born with ds & all its problems. We know there is risk of ds for any pregnancy & somewhat higher for mom <17 or > 40. Genetic counseling could give u specifics.

Opportunity to help: Seriously! i always wanted to help people get healthy. Plus i'm more a one-on-one kind of guy so public health isn't my cup of tea. And i like doing lots of different things which is why i choose family medicine, which also allows me the opportunity to care for the whole family, from cradle to grave as we say. It's also given me the opportunity to do different things time.

Body image: With the rise of hollywood and celebrity, . Bodily image has taken precedence -combined with better understanding of the health effects of being thin.  In the past, without these as motivators, the overweight simply lived with it.  Peddling diets is also a money making industry and this advances the publicity surrounding diets.

Pregnancy Tests: Even inexpensive home pregnancy tests are quite accurate. Have you missed your period? Most women test after they miss a period? You can repeat test in a week if still no period. Take care.

Observational study: We gain such data  examining the frequency of health impairment in those exposed to 2nd hand smoke, compared to that of the unexposed. It is well documented that 2nd hand smoke increases crib death risk and doubles ear and bronchial infections in infants. These studies have been repeated many times with the same results.
