Stool color: The color of stool has little significance unless it is jet black or inordinately pale to white.  Otherwise this is related to the type of bacteria in your gut. Diarrhea is most commonly due to viral infection, but if it becomes progressively worse you may need to see a doctor to have you and the stool examined.

female 25. i have had two bouts of explosive dark brown diarrhea over the past two hours. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

Only if painful: I'd stay close to a toilet, (stay home), stay away from others (minimize spread), and drink plenty of fluids (alternate water and Gatorade).  If this continues or is uncontrolled, or associated with anything more than mild abdominal pain/cramping, then head to an urgent care or ER (if severe) or see your doctor in the morning.  Speed of follow up is proportional to pain.

Dark black?: Black (not bright red) stools can indicate bleeding in the upper GI tract.  This needs to be checked out by your doctor.  You could also have some type of food poisoning that causes blood in stool.  Please see your doctor as soon as you can.  Be well.

i had my gallbladder out last thursday (nov. 10) and the last few days each time i eat i get pain and diarrhea that is dark dark brown almost black and i am not sure if i should be worried?

: If you have no other symptoms try eating small light meals and take PeptoBismol for a day or two. If not better pl see your surgeon. Hope you do weel.

Of  course: Sounds like an acute gastroenteritis, and if these symptoms do not clear in the next 24 hrs or get substantially better you should be seen by a GI doctor, assessed, diagnosed and managed.  Please go and see somebody reasonably soon.  Good luck.

should i be worried about a sandy, dark brown (not black) sinking diarrhea with a lot of separate floating grease? i've also been extremely dizzy.

Two things...: (1) This diarrhea, if acute, could represent an infection that requires investigation and/or treatment and (2) the dizziness suggests that you may be dehydrated because of the volume loss in the diarrhea.  As such, I would certainly be concerned and would see a doctor in an ED or urgent care center today for an evaluation.

Can be: Can depend on the type of iron supplement; can cause diarrhea or constipation, can cause dark or black stools. Symptoms can be helped by taking with food. Any question, call your doc.

Clear fluids and UC: clinic evaluation. You will need medication to stop your fluid losses and IV infusion to replace fluds lost from vomiting.

why is my poo mushy dark green and quite smelly for 2 weeks now? and occasionally soft brown colour. no stomachache nor diarrhea. do i need to be concern? thank you

Probably not: Those symptoms don't necessarily denote a serious problem. Smelly stool is nonspecific. Dark green stool is often related to diet such as ingestion of green vegetables. It also is seen if the intestinal transit time increases and bile is not broken properly. Rapid transit loosens stool. Try avoiding harsh roughage or too much fiber to slow intestinal transit. See a gastroenterologist as needed.
