Unlikely: Never say never, & never say always. If the pain is truly in the back it is unlikely this is related to diarrhea. Most cases of diarrhea are from a viral infection & will usually pass in 24-48 hours. But prolonged diarrhea, especially with blood should be evaluated by a dr.  There are many other variables a dr. Will want to know: how long the pain, what makes it better/worse, same with diarrhea.

i had diarrhea within an hour of eating out. followed by severe upper back pain/kidney pain?  diarrhea has stopped but pain in back is still severe.

Diarrhea back pain: Likely related to food ingested. You can have back pain with diarrhea because the colon goes all the way up near the diaphragm and when irritated you can feel it in your back or along the sides. You still may have gas.  Consider  mylanta with simethicone but follow up with doctor/urgent care today may require antibiotics if camphylobacter which  has a pattern of waxing an waning diarrhea

See doctor: any mass or lesion needs evaluation. Yellow stools and diarrhea indicate fat in the stool or bile in the stool. There are many causes including fat malabsorption, choleretic diarrhea, celiac disease, bacterial overgrowth.  An in office appointment with your doctor is recommended

Could be serious: Could be many things.  Consider heart disease (can present atypically), infection, and pancreatitis,  please see a physician.

: Your son seems to to have a trivial viral illness, however, he deserves an extra attention because of diabetes.  He should be well hydrated and his glucose level needs close monitoring.

Stretch + injection: This is something i see commonly. It can be caused by several conditions, but usually responds to a simple stretching and exercise program and nsaids like Motrin taken regularly for a couple weeks. If it persists, cortisone injection in the area of pain can be very helpful. This condition almost always resolved, but can take a frustratingly long time to do so!
