Clear liquids!: Most diarrhea is due to viral gastroenteritis. Treatment should include resting the bowel and providing electrolytes. Hi fever and bloody diarrhea can be bacterial in nature and must be diagnosed by stool and blood studies. Rarely, diarrhea can be due to food intolerance such as milk allergy or lactose intolerance. If prolonged and accompanied by weight loss, see your doctor!

Persistent diarrhea: It's time to send off a fresh stool specimen, even if it's watery, for culture to check for pathogenic bacteria, parasites or eggs. If you've been taking bismuth antidiarrheal medications, like peptobismol, your stools can turn black. Iron supplements can also cause black stools as can bleeding from the upper gi tract. A physician can check your stool for blood in his/her office. No roughage diet.

COVID 19: COVID 19 Sx's may include fever, cough, feeling tired, shortness of breath, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, chills, chest pain, nasal congestion, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Get urgent care for difficulty breathing, blue lips, persistent chest pain/ pressure or new onset confusion. This might be a viral gastroenteritis but COVID 19 can be ruled out with this info.

: Pepto Bismol would never be harmful or delay clearing of the diarrhea, no matter the cause. If it's serious diarrhea, PB won't work, but it's fine to give it a try.

See a GI doctor: Do not wait on this.  A one month episode of diarrheic stools and chills suggests the possible spread of infection beyond the colon lumen.  This could be quite serious and should be investigated aggressively.  Hope she gets well soon.
