i just changed my 4 month old's diaper and noticed blood in her stool along with a diaper rash which she very rarely gets. concerned. possible cause?

Diaper rash: if the diaper rash is severe enough, it can cause bleeding. Try a diaper rash cream with a lot of zinc oxide and see. If still blood, see your pediatrician

his stools from mineral oil and probiotics now are very runny and painful and this evening smelled of ammonia. horrible diaper rash as well.

Runny stool: Treatment of constipation with mineral oil can result in runny stools. It is unlikely that probiotics are contributing to runny stool.  Ammonia smell in stool likely due to urine mixed with stool.  Diaper rash is due to contact with runny stool.  Diaper rash will resolve with use of diaper cream containing zinc oxide.

my one year old just started cows milk. i noticed he does fine with 2% but got horrible gas pains, loose stools and bad diaper rash. why is that?

Confusing question: You don't list what s/he drank before: bm/formula, if formula was it soy, lactose free or cow milk based. The symptoms sound like simple lactose intolerance, and deserves a discussion with your doc. In the mean time a trial on lactose free milk (lactaid) could improve things until you do.

my one year old just started drinking milk. he's fine with 2%. but when he drinks whole milk he got bad gas pains, loose stools and bad diaper rash.

Normal: This can be normal. It is recommended that children at 1 year be drinking whole milk. Unlikely due to lactose intolerance since he can already drink 2% milk fine.

Accepted Answer

Could be infection: Often time scales in this area could mean a fungal infection.  There are prescription creams available from your pediatrician to treat this.  You can try a barrier cream first- like aquaphor or desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) and see if your baby's skin improves.

my 19 months has had small red bumps in his diaper area for almost a week, and not improved with diaper rash cream. now he has the same on his stomach?

May be yeast/candida: A trial of antifungal cream like lotrimin af cream otc (aka 1% clotrimazole) can be used to eliminate this rash. Apply twice daily and you should see improvements over the next week.  Airing the area out-allowing the area to breath will facilitate improvement.  I am assuming he is otherwise healthy without fever, etc...

my baby, aged 13 months, had a diaper rash around a month ago. now spread to other areas like stomach and face.  most of the effected area is turned red and itchy. we are applying seba med diaper rash cream and coconut  oil. looks like not effective.

Candida: A diaper rash can cause small breaks in the skin that allow fungus and bacteria to enter and cause a local infection. The most common in babies is candida (yeast). Use a yeast infection cream containing clotrimazole (usually found in the vaginal health area of the pharmacy) 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days. (Apply the clotrimazole cream first then cover with Sebamed)

nystatin dr gave me  is not working for my daughters yeast rash now it looks like she is getting a diaper rash her skin in areas looks scaley  and red?

See a pediatric derm: Diaper rashes are quite common, however there can be multiple causes.  Often, it is first treated for yeast, however there is usually a irritant component that needs treatment as well.  Infantile psoriasis can show up as a diaper rash, so if it is stubborn and persistent, this can be the cause.  Lastly, rare conditions only a pedi derm would be familiar with would be evaluated. hi! my 18mo old has diaper rash which did not clear with the use of nystacid and clotrimazole ointments, i noticed a prominent circle formation and tried my sons repivate ointment and it cleared it in 2 days, is ringworm possible on the diaper area?

Repivate and diaper : Repivate is  a  steroid  Steroids as  anti-inflammatories   stop iimmune response  and the rash of diaper rash  the immune response tot an infection ( fungus) . So the steroid is masking the rash but not treating the underlying cause which is fungus. Stop the repivate,  consider  desitin a zinc ointment that  is a barrier  well as fights fungus and f/u /w /doc this week.

have irritated perianal area like a diaper rash-got call from derm saying culture + for staphylococcus/no yeast or fungus- would it have said if mrsa?

Bacterial Culture: Yes, the culture would have told the doctor if you had mrsa.
