how is this diabetic eye disease treatment given?

Pills/insulin, laser: Best way to treat the disease including diabetic retinopathy is glucose control, hypertension control, and lipid control. Control of a single factor can reduce progression of the disease by 20-50 %.  In our diabetes team, rarely do I have to employ lasers, injections because the internal and family medicine doctors are very capable of preventing progression. Goal is hga1c less than 7 in most pt.

It can: There are many forms of eye disease related to diabetes. Some affect the vision immediately while others do not. However, if left unchecked, all forms of diabetic eye disease are likely to reduce vision. See your eye doctor regularly.

can diabetic eye disease worsen during pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

Yes: During pregnancy there are lots of growth factor which are present.  As such, diabetic changes in the eyes can develop during pregnancy and can get worse during pregnancy.  It is important if you are diabetic, to have your eyes checked in the first, second, and third trimester.  This will insure that if there are changes, they can be treat right away to prevent vision loss.

i feel thirsty all the time and i often wake up with dry eyes. i am not on any medication and dont have any other symptoms of things like diabetes. can sun exposure cause me to be thirsty?

: If you are sweating a lot with sun exposure and you do not drink enough, you may feel thirsty because of dehydration but this condition is uncommon in American daily life because water is plenty. If dry mouth is the main symptom of your thirstiness, then along with dry eyes and your age + gender, sicca syndrome should be ruled out. Good luck.

It's : It's really not possible to say for sure without knowing your mother's overall performance status.  There are people with the conditions you've described who would do well on their own , but there are others who would be overwhelmed by any one of them.  I guess my biggest concern would be whether she can see well enough to check her blood sugar and give herself insulin. If she's getting steroids for the arteritis, her blood sugar will be very high and difficult to manage.

i take 5 medications for diabetes and hbp they're metformin, metropol, lisinopril, chlorizadone, and glipizide and i burn and hurt after i pee and there's some swelling just below where i'm circumcised and my penis head won't emerge very painful too?

: There is increased risk of infection when diabetes is not adequately controlled. There is not enough information here, but there is a suggestion that you may have infection is why you have the burning and the swelling of your penis. It is best to get evaluated so you could be put on appropriate antibiotics as soon as possible.

Not good: Adults with diabetic retinopathy most often lose vision from swelling in the retina. With good control of blood sugars this can sometimes resolve. If you start to develop poor blood sugar control, elevated blood pressure, or elevated cholesterol the swelling can return causing fluctuating vision. Diabetics can also develop bleeding in their eyes causing vision changes.  Go to your eye doctor.

Once a year: If your vision seems to be changing a lot or you already have some problems with your eyes due to diabetes, you may need to be seen more frequently.  The general rule of thumb is that diabetics should have their eyes checked once a year though.
