Fellowships in adult or pediatric endocrinolgy offer more in-depth training in diabetes as well as other endocrine conditions.  Some endocrine fellowships have an increased emphasis on diabetes, but not exclusively.

Not ideal: There are multiple tests for diabetes but preferred are fasting glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels. Generally, these are tested on two separate occasions to confirm the diagnosis unless the numbers are way out of range. Non-fasting glucose with symptoms suggestive of diabetes can be reliable. : Would suggest trying to connect your mildly elevated sgpt with your possible symptoms through a formal diagnosis and prior to starting meds to treat a condition. 5 days of treatment and a difference of 3 units is not enough to elicit a trend and/or to decide if response/ non-response to current drug. Talk to your treating doc about goals of treatment.

Yes: Diet modification is part of the treatment. Avoiding all forms of sugar, reducing amount of carbohydrates and fats, adequate amount of proteins- basic diabetic diet.
