my child has eczema, have been using desonide on and off for couple weeks. now eyes are red at times swollen. is this likely due to allergies or is this probably a side effect? when will redness fade?

Allergies: Likely allergies. The redness will persist as long the offending agent is present unless your child is on an antihistamine -then it should get better fairly rapidly.  An aside, topical steroids ( i.e. Desonide) should not be placed around the eyes or mouth unless specifically directed by your physician.

can desonide lighten hyperpigmentation?

Maybe: Desonide is a steroid cream, which can improve inflammation.  If the hyper pig is due to inflammation the desonide might help, but it won't lighten the actual color.  You will probably want to combine it with a bleaching cream.  You should also take care if you're using it on your face, check with MD to make sure the concentration isn't too high.  If the color is due to sun or age, it won't help.

No: Steroid creams can make it worse, because fungi love steroids. You need an antifungal cream.

used desonide for baby eczema for the last 2 weeks.  how long should i take a break before resuming?

2 weeks: If you have been using desonide twice daily for 2 weeks, you should take a break for at least 2 weeks before resuming.  As a rule of thumb, 2 weeks is the maximum number of days in a row to use twice daily topical steroids.  If you are using topical steroids only once daily, then you may use them for a month.  Use caution on the face and genital regions with topical steroids (can thin skin).

i have a baby with face eczema.  i used desonide for a week, but the eczema is back.  is something else safer or better?

Frequent Vaseline: Eczema on the body and face is in most cases transient and doesn't leave life long scars in most babies. Eczema occurs due to the skin becoming dry. Some important things to do:
1. Apply vaseline/eczema ointments 4-6 times per day
2. Use luke warm water for baths
3. Don't put soaps in the water for bathing as it leaches fat from the skin.
4. Use small amounts of  aveno baby wash/dove soap.

Yes: Just on the skin around the eye lids is fine. Not meant for use on the eye itself.

Dermatitis: Depending on the severity of her dermatitis you can try using 0.25 percent Hydrocortisone available otc.

Change therapy: most likely you are not treating the cause of the rash. Desowen treats the symptoms of a condition, this sometimes helps the body heal on its own by reducing inflammation.  would suggest having your rash reevaluated

i have bxo. iam 25 yrs male and have bxo for last two years or so but detected  two months ago. i need help.currently i use tacrolimus and desonide .?

Bxo: Local antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents are used to treat lichen sclerosis (ls) and (bxo). Circumcision may be necessary. If the scarring leads to blocking of the urethra, sometimes more extensive reconstructive surgery is needed. Cook makes a meatal dilator that can be of help.
