Fungal infection: This is a fungal infection caused (usually) by breathing in spores of a fungus. It is found in certain desert areas of the sw usa and mexico. Many people have no symptoms, but if they do, the initial illness is "flu-like". Fevers, headache, cough and sometimes sharp chest pains. If you developed an infection with pulmonary complications are traveling to high risk area, this may be a consideration.

Often not fatal: For most otherwise healthy people coccidioidomycosis is a mild self-limited disease. Probably a surprisingly high percentage of the us population has been exposed without knowing it. Those with hiv/aids or some other immunodeficiency are at risk for more severe or disseminated disease, which can most certainly be fatal.

It is a fungus: Coccidioides immitis is the actual name of the fungus that causes the disease coccidioidomycosis.  It is a fungal infection because it is caused by a fungus.  This is just the same as why a bacterial infection or viral infection is called such.

Aerosol: Everyone acquires, basically, cocci by inhaling spores of the mold into the lungs which may or may not cause any symptoms.  In some people, dissemination outside the lung occurs which could be due to immune defects like aids.  Additionally, certain ethnic groups such as filipinos and african-americans seem to have an increased risk of dissemination.

It depends: Most patients recover on their own..Incubation time from exposure to illness is from 1-4 weeks. The disease can become chronic in about 5% of patients, and treatment can take months. This is more common in patients who have some form of immune defiiciency.

See below: This is a fungal disease that is airborne and anyone in the appropriate area can come down with the disease.  Those patients that have immune problems are more likely to have disease than someone that doesn not but in fact normal people do get this.  When does it spresd  that is strongly dependent on a number of things in the individual.

why we cannot give antipyratic i/v drugs during high grad fever?

Why iv?: if someone has high grade fever (103 or above), why wouldn't oral or rectal medication work? IV medication is an option but can be an expensive and sometimes difficult to access unless someone is in a hospital.
