Yes: A slin biopsy should be able to detect discoid lupus.Also either the dermatologist,a rheumatologist or your primary may do labs to make sure not just discoid lupus but lupus itself.

Mole biopsies: The art of identifying  moles as premalignant, is very subtle and difficult. Consultation on a biopsy is a very, very frequent occurrence in dermatology. This does not mean that you have more to worry about. Just need you have to wait on the second consultation so that everyone is on the same page and realizes that a mole is premalignant, malignant, or completely benign.

Would help if did: Many times timing and distribution (where and when) of the rash will give you the answer. Most don't need biopsies. Typically symptoms occur hours or days (not minutes) after exposure. TRUE tests are good basic patch tests, but ask about higher level (NACDG) testing if insufficient. Side effects? Causing the exact same rash that caused the visit (usually placed on the back).

Biopsies are around $200.  These vary greatly.  So, find a board certified dermatologist and call their office, they should be able to provide that information.

Watch for infection: and if doesn't improve over nest few days,return to treating Doc.May be due to different levels of freezing which result in different rates of healing.
