Mostly mild: Dyspepsia and/or weight gain are common.  A rare side effect is a liver and blood allergy/dysfunction. Less common are fatigue, peripheral edema, acne, dizziness, drowsiness, hair loss, headaches, nausea, sedation, and tremors.  An increase of ammonia levels in the blood, which can lead to vomiting and sluggishness.

Side effects: Both can cause nausea & headaches. Depakote side effects are tremors, inc. Weight, leg cramps, ataxia, swelling of face, hair loss, irregular menses in females, rash.  Zoloft (sertraline) side effects are restlessness & diarrhea.

Depends...: It really depends on how your body metabolizes the medication. Most people do not report any side effects on such a low dose of medication.

Side effects.: All psychiatric rx's have side effects. If you check with side effects in the pdr, you will not want to take another drug. Mostly, your individual should be concerned about the drug/drug interactions. It is almost unamerican not to be polymedicvated. The prescribing md should talk with the patient about what the drugs will do and more importantly what the drugs will not do.

help! i know they say don't come off of depakote urself but i have heard a lot say there were no side effects for them doing so. i also take seroquel (quetiapine)?

Relapse vs withdrawl: While there are usually no side-effects, ie withdrawal, from stopping depakote, there is a very real risk of relapse.  That is, the original problem that led to taking Depakote in the first place could return.  Since Depakote is used for serious conditions, stopping this treatment without close monitoring by your doctor could be very risky.

can i take laxatives while on depakote? i've read online that depakote has multiple side effects including constipation.

Yes: You might be better off by making sure you have adequate magnesium . 500mg magnesium citrate twice /d would be ok. Increasing your water intake and roughage, avocado, sweet potato, green vegetables .

my doctor increased my depakote dose to 1000mg is this considered a high dose and will the new dose add on more side effects than what i already have?

Standard dose: The dose of depakote needed is most often based on blood level, range of avg doses , 1000mg common. Yes it is possible that a bigger dose will result in more SE, but would not expect giant increase, usually mild or modest increase if any at all.

is depakote used to treat tremors like topamax (topiramate) is?i want to avoid topamx for migraines and tremors,the side effects sound awful but it sounds effctive

Depakote: Depakote can be used for Migraine prevention, but I would not advise mixing it with Topamax (topiramate).

could there be side effects to depakote sprinkles, hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) or ovcon causing me to see colored spots in vision constantly? have been taking all 10 years

Accepted Answer

Yes: Depakote is known to cause Visual disturbance especially with prolonged use. To establish cause of your symptoms you must be evaluated by doctor.
