Unusual : Follicles typically do not have septations and often appear earlier in the cycle. If this is a true follicle, then it is likely to ovulate soon.

after ovulation there is a big follicle seen in scan , what does that mean? another egg is about to release?

Accepted Answer

No: If you have confirmed ovulation than the follicle is most likely a cyst. It is not another egg.

24-48 hrs: Usually 24-48 hrs after the HCG shot provided that a mature follicle >20 mm is detected on u/s before the shot. Rarely it can happen in 36 hrs.

does immature egg leads to ovulation? had vaginal scan on day 3,9,12  i had 5# follicles 4mm each on day 3 but my follicle remains the same on 9,12?

Not ovulating: If the largest follicle is only 4mm on CD 12, you are,probably not ovulating this month. You need to discuss this with your fertility MD.

i have been told i have immature follicles, i would like to know if this means i will never produce a viable egg for ovulation.

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: Immature follicles are present in the ovary at the beginning of each cycle and respond to hormonal stimulation as part of the "maturation" process to produce an egg. If you are NOT having menstrual cycles or worse, never had a menstrual cycle at the expected time of puberty, then that is a much more serious problem necessitating GYN MD evaluation.

my icsi doc said they could retreive only 02 eggs out of 09 follicles(>16mm) grown by super ovulation.can follicle be empty? amh & other hormones r ok

Controversial: This happens infrequently and the idea of "empty follicles" is controversial, but it may explain some cases. The worst case I ever had we got 2 eggs out of 22 follicles. there are other reason for not recovering eggs, mainly if the egg retrieval is too soon or too late after the trigger shot.

Not yet: 9-11mm is probably too small to ovulate. Typically they are around 20mm when ovulation occurs.

my sis has pcos.was on femara (letrozole) cd5-9. 2 follicles got matured,at cd11 got pregnyl injection.is there a chance that egg still did not release?

Accepted Answer

Yes possible: Many PCO patient have issues not only with follicle stimulation, but ovulation as well.  There is no guarantee that she ovulated.  I would recommend she use ovulation prediction kits to give more information.  They are available next to the pregnancy tests at the pharmacy.

Early ovulation ?: At 38, your pituitary is producing a higher level of ovarian stimulation, resulting frequently in ovulation at day 8-12.  The egg is fully mature at the point of ovulation even if released "early".  Conception is not diminished, although if not planned for by earlier intercourse, ovulation may be "missed".  Best to plan pregnancy based on testing for ovulation.

Hard to say: Septated follicles can be septated for various reasons.  One of them being blood.  Ie hemorrhagic cyst.  Cysts that have blood in them are typically after ovulation.  So a 16 mm follicle on day 10 doesn't look like a good prognosis for this month.  Also follow up with your gyn to make sure that the septated cyst eventually goes away.
