Many reasons: Some people are just prone to prominent veins, but others may have an underlying vein problem. Would recommend seeing a vascular surgeon in your area.

VEINS: Are usually dark in color as the blood in the veins has given up the oxygen, the reason for a darker color. Obviously, if one has problems with the heart, lungs, etc. Will make the blood even darker. See a physician if your blood in the veins is unusually dark in color or you have symptoms such as shortness of breath...

See doctor: make sure to get US of your legs ASAP to check for blood clots, if negative it could be varicose vein, or other arterial or venous issues.  May need to use compression stockings. See doctor to rule out DVT

Doctor can evaluate: Increased visibility of veins, dark veins, dark circles under the eyes, etc..., are usually due to increased blood in the tiny veins and capillaries in the skin. If the skin thins out, one may see a similar appearance. A primary care doctor can evaluate to be sure the patient is healthy, and look for causes of the increased appearance of veins, such as hormonal causes, medicine effects, etc...

dark veins visible back of upper left thigh after sitting. i am thin active woman, 49yrs old. take provera, (medroxyprogesterone) do hot yoga. should i worry about clot?

No worry ..: If you  are  active although on Provera (medroxyprogesterone) but don't smoke yours veins are most likely superficial various veins which are more prominent when siting and fill up by gravity ! other veins - deep - which you don't see are the ones we worry if clot would form ! symptoms are usually  pain in calf with walking, swelling, redness .. High risk is inactivity or genetic clothing problem. If any doubt- see md!

Ultrasound of the veins in your legs will give valuable information and one of the consideration  is venous incompetence in the axial veins:   great saphenous, and small saphenous veins which can be treated nicely in an office setting as a one day procedure, with good results.

Often normal: This may occur after exercise  or prolonged standing . See a vascular surgeon to be sure you do not have  venous Insufficiency

Neuropathic tx: After so long, you should be under the care of a good pain management physician who uses medications other than just opiates (which aren't that effective for this pain anyway) that are more effective for nerve-related symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling.   The cramps may be from a different issue (clots) which are more serious and require immediate evaluation.

i just got bit several times by mosquitos. i noticed one bite on my leg has 3 dark lines coming out from it. it almost looks like veins but ive never seen it before. ive had reactions to mosquito bites before but havent seen this. whats going on?

: I'm not sure what the dark lines signify. A physician would have to inspect this to be sure. The lines could be some breakdown products of some bleeding that occurred under the skin from the bite.

Get it checked out: Without seeing or examining your leg it's impossible to tell. One concern would be a deep clot in a vein that's called a deep vein thrombosis (dvt). This can be a complication of surgery as well as decreased activity. A DVT can lead to a more serious complication called a pulmonary embolus (pe). If untreated it can also lead to vein problems like varicose veins.You should get it checked out asap.
