Membrane: It is a thin piece if vascular tissue, a result of body formation.  It can easily be ruptured.  Just as there is no point to an appendix, there is no point to the hymen, it's just there, a result of embryology.

If the inserted fingers cause pain, then the hand might be pressing too hard, the finger penetrating too deeply, or there might be too many fingers.
