Absolutely.: Trust your physician on this. The ct scan can more clearly identify the dimensions and depth of this lump. Also, it can detect if this lump has tentacles or is attached to other important structures in your neck. It can help detect if the lump is solid or cystic; this would lead the surgeon as to whether the lump would need to be removed entirely or perhaps tolerate a needle aspiration or biopsy.

i had a ct of head and neck with contrast. i was pushed under ct scan. tech said would be about three minutes but i was under it for 20 minutes.they inserted contrast and was out.is this normal?could they have left radiation on by error? why so long?

: Positioning for the best possible study takes time and remains the most time consuming party of specialty exams The actual time on for the CT study using modern equipment is a few minutes per study (ie. with or without contrast). They do not "leave the machine on" for positioning and do not rush the patient out after a study.
