will getting a gingivectomy affect my porcelain crown?

Possibly: A gingivectomy will remove some of the gum height around the tooth. As the gums heal following the proceedure, they may retract some more. If the crown is a porcelain fused  to metal crown, there might be a dark ring visible at the crown margin  after the proceedure. If it is an all porcelain crown, the exposed edge would be much less noticeable.

Yes: A gingivectomy (removing some of the gum tissue) can be done around crowns. If these are crowns on front teeth, then the dentist (either a cosmetic dentist or a periodontist-gum specialist) will need to use a lot of finesse to avoid showing root structure which can be unattractive.
For these cosmetic procedures in our office we use a laser for high precision.

Depends on Size: Gingivectomy means removal of gum tissue. If you have a gap between the teeth, the space may become bigger initially, but some spaces are caused by the pressure of the swollen gums & periodontal disease. If this is so, the space may get smaller with healing. If you have a open triangle between the teeth, it may get larger. Some dentists can treat this with soft tissue graft or dermal fillers.

Laser: The amount of tissue to be removed is mapped out and after anesthesia the tissue is lasered off.

Most of the time, no: While some pain can be expected with any oral surgical procedure, i would never expect severe pain.  Yes, severe pain may occur.  However, i would not expect it.

Kind of similar: A gingivoplasty intends to reshape the gums around the teeth, creating a more cosmetic or cleanable situation in the mouth.  A good example is when veneers are placed on the front teeth.  It helps make the teeth the right length.  A gingivectomy intends to remove gums that are inflamed or hyperplastic and create on cleanable pocket adjacent to the tooth.  Disfigurement is very common, but healthy.

Removal for one: Gingivectomy is actual removal of some of the gingival tissue, whereas gingivoplasty is just a thinning or recontouring of the gingiva.
