Most of the time, no: While some pain can be expected with any oral surgical procedure, i would never expect severe pain. Yes, severe pain may occur. However, i would not expect it.

Usually not: Gingivectomies may result in some mild discomfort but my 30 years experience tells me not severe pain. However, some patients have extremem thresholds.
