what are my treatment options for crohns disease?

Discuss with GI MD: Treatment of anyone with an autoimmune disorder starts with stress reduction, proper diet and adequate sleep and rest. Lack of any of these can worsen/bring out symptoms. Sometimes treatment involves biologics of which Humera is one, steroids, and 5-aminosalicylates if the colon and rectum are involved. The right medication choices need a discussion with your MD who knows extent of your disease.

Talk with doctor: You should be in contact with your doctor by phone if you are in pain or bleeding. Going to the er should be a joint decision, unless you are experiencing extreme uncontrollable pain or other unusual or concerning symptoms.

can pelvic surgeries cause a flare up in crohns disease symptoms. more specifically a robotic cystecomy??

Most likely not.: Surgery on bladder will not affect your gi tract, unless the two are abnormally adherent.  Get opinion from gi specialist just to be sure.

for the past 3 days i had 6 or less hrs of sleep due to my crohns disease.now i am extremely scared and anxious about sleep.any ways to reduce anxiety?

Relaxation training: Are your symptoms under better control? Are you n pain? Are you on medication such as steroids that can cause sleep disturbance ?  Once this has  been discussed with your doctor, reset your sleep clock with good sleep hygiene and try relaxation training which can help you shift your focus from fearful, anxiety ridden thoughts to a safer place along with releasing muscle tension to allow sleep.

throughout the day my stomach swells, hardens with raised knots sometimes painful. i have crohns disease don't know if related -happens most every day?

More info: I would keep a log of your symptoms and indicate time of day and relation to meal time and what you ate.  I would present this information to your gastroenterologist and see how this fits into your Crohns process.  Good luck.

crohns disease: is the anal gas infectious like a cough to people ?

Accepted Answer

No: Crohn's disease is not an infectious disease. That being said you can have a GI tract infection on top of the crohn's especially if you have been treated with antibiotics and this infection can be contagious from contact with your stool. In general the gas or flatus should not be able to spread any infection without direct stool contact.

Risk of CA: Very small but not zero.
Yes the longer the better or the worse the risk.

hello, i have crohns disease and many antibiotics causes a sever flare up. i've had strep for almost 6wks now. im allergic to penicillin, so that limi?

Which abx?: If you are truly allergic to penicillin, erythromycin would work for strep infection as well unless you have had an adverse reaction to it.  If your problem is primarily GI, consider taking a probiotic with antibiotic in the future.  May check with allergist to find out if you are still allergic to penicillin as well.  By the way, there are good biologics which are effective for Crohn's disease.

i have to take remicade for crohns disease. but have been told there is risk of cancer.how high is that risk for a young male?

Low risk: Crohn's disease also increases the risk of cancer. That risk is a lot higher than the risk from infliximab (Remicade). The more important risk from such drugs is for certain infections, like tuberculosis. Discuss all this with your doctor:  but almost certainly you should take the drug as recommended.

i have crohns disease & i woke up this morning vomiting and diarrhea badly. this pain is beyond intense. should i go to the e.r i can't even eat.

If you cannot: reach the Medical Provider who is treating your crohns I would opine that an ER (or preferably a Walk In Unit) is indicated.  In the meantime Clear Liquids only!
