Weakness: Usually paralysis means feeling weakness or having difficulty moving one of your limbs or muscles.  Many times paralysis can happen with a loss of feeling in the affected area if there is sensory nerve involvement.  When we talk about paralysis keep in mind that this means weakness lasting for a couple of days at least - not just an arm or leg "falling asleep" after sitting for a while!

Sudden weakness: Sudden episodes of weakness may occur where the only abnormal blood test is a high potassium.  This is referred to as hyperkalemic paralysis.  Two other forms are hypokalemic and normokalemic where low or normal potassium levels are found.  The disorder can run in families.  Not easy to predict, but needs prompt treatment when episodes occur.

Sleep paralysis poses no serious health risk.

Fibromyalgia: Rheumatologic conditions such as fibromyalgia are often diagnoses of exclusion meaning that a lot of other things have been ruled out and this is what's left. If you are not satisfied then seek a second opinion.

i have facial paralysis on right. i have all the symptoms of bells palsy. swelling has gotten worse around my eyes and nose and constant headaches. runny nose and neck pain. could it be something else? what tests do i need? its been a month?

: Facial Palsy(paralysis) can be caused by more than one conditions, some of them are serious and can cause loss of vision. You should go see your doctor who may refer you to an Eye specialist(Ophthalmologist) for examination of the eye and may refer you to a neurologist who can conduct further testing to find out the cause of the swelling of the eyes...this would be unusual in Bell's Palsy.

Difficult to answer: Erb's palsy (erb-duchenne palsy) is a paralysis of the arm caused by injury to the upper group of the arm's main nerves, specifically the upper trunk c5-c6 is functionally severed.  The best way to prevent the symptoms is to avoid the injury in the first place.

If your EEG shows no:  evidence of seizures, your paralysis &amp; facial spasms don&#x27;t follow anatomic patterns &amp; no neurological or systemic medical cause is found, you may have a psychiatric illness, either Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder or Functional Neurological Disorder. who can administer a sleep test? what are the symptoms of narcolepsy? is there a cure for chronic sleep paralysis? where can i get it treated (us/uk)?

MSLT: A polysomnogram (overnight sleep test) followed by an MSLT (multiple sleep latency test) is reasonable to rule out sleep apnea and narcolepsy.  There are effective treatments for both conditions including pharmacotherapy for narcolepsy.  Although any physician may order these tests it would be wise to see a sleep physician.
