What is the context: Depends on what you are looking for. No simple test. There are specific tests for certain things (penicillin).  There are a few tests done to determine if an individual can tolerate a certain med (G6PD). Mostly, though, it comes down to trial of a med and knowledge  of what to look for. For example if you get a cough with ACE inhib (lisinopril) your DR will change you to ARB (valsartan)

can muscle cramps be a sign of drug allergy?

Possibly: Athough any medicine can cause almost any possible side effect, having muscle cramps result from a drug allergy would be on the unusual side.  That being said, the statins for high cholesterol can cause muscle pain.  But that isn't an allergy.  Nevertheless, i would think about other possibilities first.  I would recommend seeing your regular physician.

i have taken every over-the-counter drug possible. (zyrtec, clariton, etc.) is there a way to get rid of these allergies?

Sure there is!: Once medications no longer control your allergies, it is time to see a board certified allergist. You can get tested and see if you are a candidate for allergen desensitization. These provide you with long term relief from your allergies and minimize your dependence on medications. Find one in your local area at acaai.Org or aaaai.Org.

hello, is there a medical drug, antibiotic, or natural herb to treat intestinal allergy caused by drinking milk or its derivatives?

: There is over the counter medicine called Lactaid that you can take right before you are going to ingest a milk product. It helps prevent the symptoms you would typically get like gas, bloating, discomfort, etc. Perhaps you should try it-follow the directions on the packet as far as how many pills to take. Good luck!

i've been prescribed dymista, an expensive brand name allergy nasal spray drug. is there a cheaper, generic alternative that does the same thing?

Individual drugs: It's fluticasone propionate and azelastine combo. First is OTC now, second needs Rx, but cheap; call doc for a script. I know other docs have their patients mix them (or other steroid nose sprays) together in same bottle, but that's totally off label - and I have no idea if they are compatible, so I personally do not recommend it. Just use one, then use the other.

htn management after failing arb and ccb with a sulfa allergy? other than bb, what are other options? what class/drugs are recommended to trial w/ pt. next! options are limited..?

: I heavily rely on a first line of ACE inhibitors or ARB with associated mild dose of a long acting diuretic such as HCTZ(sulfa allergy no concern) I then add, if necessary, a CCB , but if the patient tends to have a resting heart rate over 80, a BB is helpful. If a goal of 130/80 is not achieved, I add an alpha blocker such as cardura  or a beta dilator such as labetolol in varying doses. Success

can i take claritin (loratadine) d while on celexa? my allergies have been acting up and i'd like to take some claritin, (loratadine) is there a possible bad drug interaction i should be worried about?

According : According to drugs.Com, there are no adverse reactions listed for Claritin (loratadine) d and celexa.

i was told i have diverticulitis. its being treated with cefdinir due to allergies to other drugs. will cefdinir help any? how long should i notice improvement? :) i been having bouts of consipation and narrow like stool. thank you?

: Constipation and narrow-like stool are not the typical symptoms of diverticulitis. Nowadays, most mild to moderate cases of diverticulitis are self limited, no need for antibiotic therapy and cefdinir is not often used for treating diverticulitis. Good luck.

Yes: Drug allergy is a complex issue, so many drugs r in the market with many active / inactive ingredients, fortunately enough only few people develop drug allergy, if at all in doubt stop the medicine review it with ur doctor to replace it, if it is an absolute necessity to take the drug in question consult an allergist.
