See a doctor : Could be the flu, pneumonia or bronchitis. If you are coughing up blood you should seek medical attention.

Probably not: Rule in medicine - common things are common, rare things are rare.  Als is rare.  It doesn't mean you don't have it, but the likelihood is really low. 

Differential diagnosis includes reflux disease, post nasal drip, anxiety disorder, globus sensation.  Stay with it - your doctor should be able to help figure this out.

Reflux: Phlegm in the throat associated with food may be from acid reflux. When acid reflux makes it to the level of your throat it is called lpr.  In some instances chronic inflammation in the tonsils may cause similar symptoms.  I rare cases, a pouch like space called a diverticulum(zenker's)  can occur in the upper esophagus which can produce mucous and debris.

Possible gerd: Your symptoms could be from acid reflux or gallbladder issues. Are you having any pain in your right upper quadrant of your abdomen? If so it is likely related to gallbladder etiology. Recommend low fat diet and follow up with your physician if it continues.

Sore throat: See a doctor ASAP.  Try gargling with warm salt water to break up the phlegm.  It is important that you stay hydrated, so drink  water or Gatorade.

Sore throats: Get seen. It's not from clearing your throat. Strep thirst can be deadly. There's other concerns too.

Possible conditions: Feed at an angle and avoid spit ups, by burping mid and after a feeding. If the mucus is related to post nasal drip, infant nasal saline drops and gentle suction may be helpful. If you notice that the baby is struggling to breathe, an emergency room visit is indicated. Keep nasal passages and mouth clear of secretions with gentle suction. Monitor for signs of infection including fever.

LPR differs from GER: LPR is similar to  GERD.  LPR, you may not have the classic symptoms of GERD,  Heartburn. That's why it can be difficult to diagnose and  sometimes called silent reflux.  In LPR Upper &amp; Lower esophageal sphincters do not work right, 
Silent reflux is common in infants because their sphincters are undeveloped,  shorter esophagus, and they lie down much of the time, In adults etiology is unknown.

i have a 5 month old baby and she has a lot of phlegm in her throat. her nose is clear but she struggles to breathe cause she cant cough it down. ?

Did you try to use saline drops for the nose, to see if you can get any thing out.
