Neck strain or disc : Need traction use inversion table daily for 15-20 minutes will relax the neck by traction- there are other inexpensive traction device like trueback, proneck which also helps. Take orally anti- inflammatory medication like magnesium salicylate which is otc and helps relax muscles.
