Chronic cough: Chronic cough is not normal.  The 4 major causes of chronic cough are asthma, chronic sinus problems, post nasal drip from allergies and stomach acid reflux.  There are many more less common triggers.  A lung specialist (allergist or pulmonologist) can assist in identifying cause (chest x-ray, breathing tests)  so that a reasonable treatment approach can be taken.  Don't live with it!

NO, follow advise: You already had an episode of pneumonia ,  your doctor gave best advise  , don't want you to get it back wants to prevent it  by giving antibiotics , now it is up to you , if you are not happy take a second opinion.

Hemoptysis...: Coughing up blood, called hemoptysis, is a symptom that always needs to be evaluated by a doctor. The most common cause is acute bronchitis, an infection of the airways. This is easily treated once the etiology of the infection is determined. However, malignancy can also cause hemoptysis so your doctor needs to rule this out, especially in a smoker. See your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

When severe, allergy patients can have a worse average quality of life than cancer patients. A chronic cough for two months could be a viral bronchitis resolving slowly, or asthma, or a subacute sinus infection. Time to see an allergist.

Reflux?: acid reflux can cause asthma and coughing. If you are coughing every time you eat, you may be having reflux due to either expansion of your stomach or the foods that you are eating. Spicy foods, alcohol, mints and chocolate are some of the foods that can cause reflux.

Stuff going up/down: Sounds like acid reflux to me. But upper respiratory issues (sinusitis, allergies) causing mucus drainage down the throat or acid reflux up the throat can commonly result in those symptoms. Acid reflux or "silent reflux" commonly causes throat clearing, sensation of something stuck in throat, voice changes, post-nasal drip or phlegm in throat, and cough. Stay hydrated and see your doc!

i have end stage copd,  my symptoms are worst. i can't cough up phlegm now, but hear gurgling every time i breath, worst at bed.  concerned....?

Need to be checkedER: With your symptoms you need to get checked by your doctor or a pulmonologist, as you may need examination and chest xray and arterial blood gas studies
as you have cardiomyopathy and hypertension as well and may have fluid in your lungs and may need diuretics and oxygen after evaluation by your doctor, if you can not get an appointment with your doctor go to er.
