Persistent cough: For cough that persists after treatment of simple bronchitis, the most common cause is "asthmatic bronchitis" where the inflammation  causes bronchospasm and wheezing. The use of an inhaled bronchodilator like albuterol will help. The other potential cause is the possibility of pertussis (whooping) cough with spasms of cough bad enough to make you feel like you're about to pass out.

Depends: What is the cause of the cough? If from a community acquired pneumonia, then Amoxicillin could be an effective treatment. However, if the cause is not infectious, then Amoxicillin will not do anything. Find the cause of the cough and treat, don't just treat the symptom.

Need Eval Today...: You need to be evaluated by your doctor asap! if you are having any shortness of breath or if this worsens, go to the er. This may be acute bronchitis that will respond to antibiotics but this could also be due to a malignancy, especially in a smoker. You need to quit smoking immediately as well and your doctor can help with this, too, please see a doctor today! good luck!

hi..im a 37yr old female..smoker for 12mth. i had a chest infection 3/4 weeks ago with persistent cough..i was given amoxicillin and predisonalone.
however i'm now coughing up salty clear bubbly phlem 4/5 times a day?

Need  followup evalu: You need  followup evaluation to see if the pneumonia has  cleared. You need to stop smoking as this could  be aggravating the setting.
