No: Costochondritis is not a cause of palpitations.

Chest pain/discomfort with palpitations should  should be evaluated for alternative causes.

Heart rhythm problems may or may not be the cause of the chest symptoms.

Best is to see a doctor for formal evaluation and since symptoms are ongoing, , would consider this evaluation to be done promptly.

i was just told i have costochondritis separation. will this make me have more heart palpitations then normal?

Costochondral: Check with your doc. Costochondral problems should not cause palpitations.

been treated for costochondritis since i was 15. new gp told me that it seems heart disease & sent me with cardiologist. should i be worried? i have chest pressure (w/ exercise & lying down) weakness, strong palpitations & low pression when standing.

Cardiac tests: Your symptoms may or may not be heart related and can be due to anxiety. The heart tests you should have,in addition to the cardiologist examining your beart, include an EKG, echocardiogram, treadmill stress test,outpatient heart monitor with your keeping the times and types of symptoms. Thyroid and blood tests for anemia and iron deficiency would be helpful. Postural hypotension can be treated.

See a DR: Heart palpitations at any time are worth seeing a DR for. There are a variety of tests that can rule out heart problems esp arrythmias. These include a baseline EKG, holter monitor, and blood tests.

Some are,some aren't: The presence and severity of underlying heart disease and the type of arrhythmia causing the palpitations will determine if they're benign. It's customary to examine the heart with echo and record the heart's rhythm with ekg and/or prolonged recording devices to determine the nature and safety of the symptom.

Not known: Most of the time we don't find a specific reason for the heart to be beating irregularly which i assume is the reason for your palpitations. Things such as an overactive thyroid, caffeine, anxiety, disease of the heart valves, and coronary artery disease are associated with an increased incidence of palpitations but once again most of the time we don't find a specific cause.
