i have been using a ppi for over 20 years for gerd. it is no longer working as i have constant heartburn and burning and cramping in my stomach. i'm afraid that using the medication has caused low stomach acid and has weakened my les. ?

Legitimate worries: We are learning more and more about PPI’s and  their long term undesired side effects. Otherwise great drugs that changed forever the natural history of peptic ulcer disease. In your case, time to get together with your gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy and further discussion about options based on findings. If overweight, losing weight remains critical.

have dermatomyositis. everytime eat, even middle night nauseas, extreme paid stomach even to my back, definitely big air pockets. have gerd.constant?

See details: Stop tobacco use as this make GI issues worse. See a gastroenterologist and have the problem properly evaluated. You do not list your meds but many used to treat dermatomyositis also can cause major GI problems.

i am a 51 year old woman. i have gerd, have used omeprazole daily for over 20 years.  the medication no longer seems to be helping as i have acid reflux constantly. i also have ibs. is the ppi causing low stomach acid making me worse? should i stop?

GI  doc: 20 years os too long to live with GERD. You may also have damage to lower esophagus that needs to be evaluated. It would be prudent to see a GI specialist for a comprehensive evaluation and treatment. does gerd cause gas/stomach pain? i have terrible acid reflux but that's only half the pain.constantly have gas,and stomachs, normal bm too. ibs?

Gerd: GERD is mostly about heartburn and sour eructations; gas and abdominal pain are not classic symptoms. I would wonder if your symptoms are more due to lactose or gluten intolerance. People who belch alot often swallow air especially when they make themselves belch.  It's better to take mylanta after meals to prevent gas build-up. When bloated, drinking hot water helps break down the gas better

have sinus drainage, constant lump in throat, stomach grumbling for 1 week. antacids do not help? is this drainage or gerd that will not go away?

Sinus and GERD: Looks like a combination of both. Try OTC claritin, (loratadine) flonase and prilosed and see your doctor.

Gastroesophageal reflux typically causes intermittent upper abdominal pain it also can be behind your sternum. It does not cause constant pain

Not true: GERD is caused by contents in the stomach coming up through the esophagus, which in turn has a poorly understood cause. We think it is probably due to too many random openings of the valve. Certain medications can also cause the valve to open, as can stress, obesity, &amp; problems with the stomach emptying to name a few. Hope this helps!

Not the twitching: But the heartburn is concerning. You need to take something like Pepcid or zantac (ranitidine) until you see your doctor.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. If you have had unintended weight loss it would be important to see a GI specialist.

m.22) stomach issues for 2-3 years now. i woke up one morning with severe heartburn and no appetite. been on omeprazole ever since. appetite is still junk, sometimes i feel hungry but most of the time i don't. is this gerd? getting a endoscopy soon?

Stomach issues: You may have GERD, but I suspect stomach pathology more. Gastritis(inflammation of the stomach lining) or gastric ulceration are possibilities in view of your poor appetite. The gastroscopy will be very helpful in ruling these stomach disorders in or out. In the meantime avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, spicy and greasy foods. Your gastroenterologist will guide and advise you.
