If you are having general anesthesia, other drugs will be needed in addition.

Conscious sedation : The colonoscopy and gastroscopy are benign, non invasive and fast procedure that requires conscious intravenous sedation. Versed and fentanyl is the combo that anesthesiologist use for this task. If more profound sedation is need it deep sedation agents are used.

Conscious sedation: Versed and Fentanyl are a standard combination of medications use for light-moderate conscious sedation when administered by a non-anesthesiologist.   Most facilities require that an anesthesiologist (trained in intubation) be present for administration of Propofol (the drug used by Michael Jackson with clearly bad outcome.)

can versed alone be used for child mri sedation? why is propofal also needed? hospital said they use them together for mri.

Versed: Often gives inadequate sedation and other side effects such as hiccups. It works better for shorter procedures. It's main job is not to sedate but to help children not to remember a traumatic event.  Propofol can be easily adjusted to deliver the appropriate amount of medication. Also if you need to stop it the effects wear off quickly . I hope this helps and any other comments would be great.
