Imaging: CT stone protocol is without contrast. This picks up the stone better. A CT of the abdomen and pelvis  is one year of background radiation.  If you have further stone analysis ask your provider to consider and ultrasound first.

CT vs bone scan: The amount of CT radiation exposure depends on the type of CT. Average effective radiation dose for bone scan is about 6 mSv.  Dose for head CT is 2mSv, for abdomen CT is 8 mSv, and for CT angiogram 16mSv.

I was trained before CT was in use.  We had to rely on our wits and some much more invasive tests.

Perhaps: You need to get advice from your doctor, and likely consultations from an interventional radiologist as well as nephrologist and an urologist.

You want to find a solution to your pain, and do not want the angiomyolipoma to bleed.

Certainly, an embolization procedure would be one option.

Muscular: If you are overweight, one of the biggest causes is stretching of the muscle wall.
Make sure also that someone checks your kidneys.  If you are female, it could be ovarian or uterine pain from several causes.

i have chronic left flank pain and had a ct scan showing nothing. all labs have come back negative and ua was also clear.  could my ddd cause this?

Is it tender?: Tenderness is a muscle pain yes muscle pain can be chronic how did you get the ddd diagnosis this condition can range from asymptotic to painless calling a dark disc  on MRI in someone over 30 is like finding wrinkles in a 40year old we don't call it wrinkly  or grey  or no hair disease dark discs are often asymptomatic you can consider as a possible cause in folks without tenderness my opinion.

6 weeks post op supracervical hyst with right side oopherectomy . i have flank pain where ovary was removed. what could this be? dr says he doesn't know. ct scan of abdomen normal.

Flank Pain: Flank pain suggests something involving the kidneys or it could be an infection or just residual pain. Check with your doctor again.
