It seems: That we waited too long before surgery and some damage might be permanent.  Not much to do at this point.

Hand elbow recovery: Carpal and cubital tunnel surgery incisions will seal in 5 days and the functional recovery may take 2 to 3 weeks before returning to work.  However, adequate grip strength and/or vigorous activity may take 2 to 3 months to normalize.

how long could it take to recover from carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery?

Accepted Answer

Depends on severity: Somewhat different for the two. Carpal tunnel involving the median nerve at the wrist has a very quick recovery with many people feeling better immediately after surgery and returning to work sometimes in the same week or at most 3 or 4 weeks later. Cubital tunnel is very different involving the ulnar nerve at the elbow and sometimes requiring transposition of the nerve. Recovery is longer.

i had cubital tunnel release surgery last week. my fingers are now numb/super stiff/weak. i had normal emg tests too. is this pain normal in recovery?

Typical: Pain is pain. Wjhat you described is not pain, but numbness, stiffness abd weakness. They are three separate and distinct entities.

Accepted Answer

No: These nerve blocks can last for a few days on occasion. It may actually be saving you a lot of agony at the moment. You should start to regain sensation and pain in the next 24 hours.

Revision : Revision surgeries are needed from time to time. Prior to considering a revision surgery you should try sleeping with an elbow extension brace at 45 degrees. I have a fellowship in hand surgery with extensive experience is peripheral nerve surgery, and have decreased the number of ulnar nerve surgeries using bracing. Discuss with your doctor the option of using medications such as Neurontin or Lyrica (pregabalin) for this together with the bracing. My personal preference is for lyrica (pregabalin).

Yes: But listen to your body.  If the pain comes back you need to back off on wheat you are doing.

Accepted Answer

Depends: There are conservative options for cubital tunnel syndrome but the response to them can be variable.  If your symptoms are bad enough to warrant surgery, then surgery can be very helpful often with complete resolution of symptoms.  There are a variety of surgeries out there including endoscopic, in situ and transposition surgeries.  Speak to your surgeon about which is best for you.

i have cubital tunnel syndrome in my left elbow and it is starting in my right. it is not bad enough for surgery. what can i do to ease the pain?

Conservative care: May include splinting and nsaids but conserve care is not appropriate for everyone or for ever case of this. It depends upon many factors, such  magnitude of the problem, other health issues, results of studies, vocation , structural anatomy, and others.

nerve test showed ulnar monoeuropathy from moderate to severe cubital tunnel. ortho follow up recommended surgery next week, do i really need surgery?

Discuss with surgeon: Only you and the surgeon can decide that answer, as you do indeed have moderate to severe issues as per the emg, so depending on the discomfort you have and the condition as it presents, you may need the surgery, but a discussion with the dr. Who examined you and ordered the test is needed to come to a definitive answer.  Best wishes.
